Say “I Do” at Sheepfolds Stables as Civil Wedding License Granted

Sunderland’s Sheepfolds Stables is to witness couples saying “I do” within its historic setting as it announces the venue has been granted a civil wedding license.

Since its official launch six months ago, the impressive, heritage-rich hospitality venue has already become a popular location for wedding receptions, evening doo’s and private functions, and is set to increase its popularity even further by hosting civil marriage and partnership ceremonies too.

It is the latest Wearside venue to be awarded a civil license by Sunderland City Council and given its complete transformation into a modern and highly desirable food and drink, entertainment and event space, many couples from across the city and beyond are anticipated to choose Sheepfolds Stables for their big day.

Two function suites are available for civil ceremonies; The Bridlepath – a modern and contemporary space with panoramic views across the River Wear, as well as The Hayloft – a traditional, authentic room with rustic charm and original beams and features.

Both cater for 60 guests respectively or 120 guests combined. Each transform into creative wedding spaces for the reception and evening function thereafter and are adjoined by a private bar area.

Courtney Coleman, Events Co-ordinator, said: “Sheepfolds Stables is an amazing location and a truly unique setting for any wedding day celebration. There is nothing else quite like us in Sunderland or the wider North East region, and as more and more couples look for alternative, high quality venues to marry, we’re expecting a lot of enquiries.

“We’ve hosted many receptions and evening functions over the last few months, but to now host couples getting married will be something very special. We can’t wait to conduct our first civil marriage or partnership ceremony, and those that are first to do so will also be playing a part in the site’s rich history.”

Wedding day packages are created bespoke to individual requirements and include a range of options for intimate celebrations or larger party atmospheres. They are available seven days a week depending upon availability.

Those interested are asked to email Courtney at eventhire@sheepfoldsstables.co.uk or visit the website page at https://sheepfoldsstables.co.uk/private-hire/weddings/

Additionally, Sheepfolds Stables is also asking for local wedding suppliers who wish to exhibit their business and take a stall at its Expo event (planned for Sunday 27 April 2025) to get in touch. This could include anyone from stationers, cake-makers and florists, to dress designers, tailors, independent jewellers and more.

Dating back to 1884 and fully reimagined as part of a £4m investment, Sheepfolds Stables has become one of the most desirable hospitality, events and entertainment venues since its launch last year.

It is home to a range of high quality, independent operators including Ember, Vito’s Osteria, The Calabash Tree, Propa!, Deep North, I Scream for Pizza, Mother Mercy and Spey Snug, as well as The Taproom and Back of The Pit bars, and Southpaw Dance Company.
